Highlights► A novel power quality diagnosis method is presented using the S-transform and rule based classification techniques. The method considers detection of the types of short duration voltage disturbances and identification of the cause of the disturbances which may be due to either permanent or non permanent faults. The method is capable of automating the diagnosis on the recorded voltage disturbances.

Highlights► CatfishBPSO is introduced in which the catfish effect is applied to perform feature selection and improve the performance of BPSO. The K-NN method with LOOCV served as an evaluator of the CatfishBPSO fitness functions. The experimental results show that CatfishBPSO simplifies feature selection by reducing the total number of necessarily selected features effectively, and that it obtained the highest in all of the data set test problems compared to other feature selection methods from the literature.

Highlights► We used optical coherence tomography (OCT) to perform nondestructive inspection of liquid crystal display (LCD) for defects. ► We construct three-dimensional images of the LCD panel and confirm the three-dimensional shape and vertical location of eventual defects with in the LCD panel. ► It gives users more direct and relevant information about defects than other display inspection technique.
