Torsional vibration analysis of single-walled carbon nanotube-buckyball systems is carried out utilizing nonlocal elasticity theory. Nonlocal effects for different vibrating systems are highlighted.

► Torsional vibration of single-walled carbon nanotubes is studied. ► Buckyball is attached at the tip of the nanotubes. ► C50, C60, C80, C100, C180, C260, C320, C500 and C720 are considered for the study. ► Nonlocal elasticity is used. ► Nonlocal torsional transcendental equation of motion is developed.

► This work aims to investigate synergistic stabilisation of paraffin oil-in-water emulsions using conventional surfactants and hydrophilic fasilica nanoparticles. ► The attachment energy silica nanoparticles at the paraffin oil (dissolved lecithin)-water interface was calculated to be 900-4500 kT. ► The attachment energy silica nanoparticles at the paraffin oil (dissolved oleylamine)-water interface was calculated to be 250-550 kT ► Calculated attachment energies correlated well with the long-term emulsion stability, which is significantly higher for lecithin/silica stabilised emulsions.

► The photoacoustic signal (PAS) obtained by modulated CO2 laser irradiation (1.026 and 1.096 kHz) of alcosols depends on the nature and method of nanoparticles fabrication. ► The effect does not depend on the sol concentration in the range of 1–5 g/l. ► An explosive chemical reaction initiated by laser irradiation can be a source of a photoacoustic signal.

► A novel amphiphilic branched peptide containing three ®-sheet formable peptides was newly prepared as a building block for self-assembly. ► Conformation of the branched peptide could be easily controlled by manipulating the solution pH. ► The branched peptide was found to form a shape-specific ®-sheet-based nanofiber with morphologically kinked structure via self-assembly.

► This work presents an interesting phenomenon exhibited by Ni-NiO core-shell nanostructure, in which the nanostructure was fabricated by electroless-deposition and post-annealing. ► The antiferromagnetic-NiO layer screens the inner ferromagnetic-Ni, resulting in a magnetic suppression featuring linear magnetic hysteresis curve. ► The magnetic properties were also investigated by x-ray spectroscopy to provide a different approcah. ► We also provide the details of the NiO-Ni interface with high quality TEM imgaes, including the crystallinity and shell thickness of the samples.
