APL & JAP need your feedback

AIP: Applied Physics Letters & Journal of Applied Physics

Dear Colleague,

APL - JAP Journal covers We would appreciate your input regarding your experience as a reader, author or reviewer for Applied Physics Letters and Journal of Applied Physics.

The operations of each journal published by the American Institute of Physics (AIP) are routinely reviewed by committees representing the journals' respective communities. These periodic reviews are essential for the continuing health of the journals, which are meant to serve as valuable communication channels within the research community. As a part of these standard operations, a Review Committee consisting of members of the Applied Physics Letters and Journal of Applied Physics community is in the process of conducting a review of those journals.

This Committee is charged by the Executive Director of the AIP with conducting "an examination of the present characteristics of the journals, the effectiveness and efficiency of their operations, and their future development." The Committee will thus review a range of aspects of the journals including:

  • Subject area coverage (actual and potential)
  • Manuscript selection and quality
  • Special features such as Review Articles and Special Topic sections
  • Operations of the Editorial Offices
  • AIP Author Services
  • Overall efficiency (in terms of publishing speed)
  • Quality of print and online editions
  • Development of new and/or enhanced electronic products and services
  • Role of the Editorial Board

The Committee would also appreciate input from the journals' community. What do you feel that Applied Physics Letters and Journal of Applied Physics are doing right? Where can improvements be made? How can the journals better serve the community?

Please reply with any comments to jrnlpub@aip.org.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Yours faithfully,

Jacek K. Furdyna,
Chair,
Applied Physics Letters Review Committee
Jerry Meyer,
