Highlights► The regularization parameter plays an important role in applying the Tikhonov regularization method. ► We use two criteria including residual error and the norm of recovered distribution to estimate the result of inversion. In order to overcome the shortcoming of these two criteria, the so-called V-curve criterion was used. ► Numerical simulation demonstrated that V-curve criterion can be applied to optimize the regularization parameter. ► Experimental results show that stable distributions can be retrieved using the Tikhonov method with optimum parameter. | | | 10. | Theory of stability and bifurcation in a multi-quantum well laser with opto-electronic delayed feedback Original Research Article Optics & Laser Technology, In Press, Corrected Proof, Available online 8 June 2011 Yan Sen Lin
Highlights► The dynamics and stability in a multi-quantum well laser is investigated when an opto-electronic feedback presents. ► The characteristic of oscillation frequency, the condition of stability and Hopf bifurcation of the system are analyzed. ► The route from stability to bifurcation is numerically calculated by varying the delayed time, feedback strength and in-current. ► There are four distinct types of dynamics including stable, periodic pulsed, undamped oscillating or beating, and chaos in the system. ► The pulsing frequency and the chaotic pulsing frequency are analyzed. | | | 11. | A demodulation method for the circular carrier interferogram using phase stitching Original Research Article Optics and Lasers in Engineering, In Press, Corrected Proof, Available online 8 June 2011 Bo Li, Lei Chen, Jiang Bian, Yan Li
Highlights► We propose a method to retrieve phase from an interferogram with circular carrier. ► Phase stitching strategy is used to solve the sign ambiguity. ► It avoids unreliable area to achieve better precision. ► It works automatically. | | | 12. | Reinforcement Learning with Simulated Annealing and Response Surface Methodology Original Research Article Expert Systems with Applications, In Press, Accepted Manuscript, Available online 7 June 2011 Jinsong Leng, Chee Peng Lim
Highlights► In this study we combine the parametric techniques with reinforcement learning. ► We find that TD with theannealing-like approach converges much quicker. ► The annealing-like technique can reduce computational cost and learn quickly. ► Response surface method can also improve the performace by tuning parameters. | | | 13. | EDLines: A Real-time Line Segment Detector with a False Detection Control Original Research Article Pattern Recognition Letters, In Press, Accepted Manuscript, Available online 7 June 2011 Cuneyt Akinlar, Cihan Topal

Wronka, M.W. Dunnigan
Highlights► We derive a dynamic model of a robotic manipulator mounted on a moving base. ► We apply it to a Mitsubishi PA10-6CE robotic manipulator mounted on a 2-DOF platform. ► The model is analysed by comparing simulated model results with experimental data. ► Approach is useful for controlling a robotic manipulator on a moving base. | | | 20. | The Parallel Control Structure for Transparent Online Tuning Original Research Article Journal of Process Control, In Press, Corrected Proof, Available online 6 June 2011 Giridharan Karunagaran, Cai Wenjian
Highlights► The Parallel Control Structure (PCS) allows for independent design for tracking and disturbance rejection. ► We examine to what extent Transparent Online Tuning is possible in the PCS. ► Using derivations it is proved that even under mismatch conditions, Transparent Online Tuning holds. ► Using the Transparent Online Tuning feature of the PCS, greater Robustness than a conventional structure is possible, without Tracking Performance loss. ► Simulations and experimental results are used to reinforce these ideas. | | | 21. | Learning-based image restoration for compressed images Original Research Article Signal Processing: Image Communication, In Press, Uncorrected Proof, Available online 6 June 2011 Lin Ma, Debin Zhao, Wen Gao
Highlights► A novel learning-based image restoration scheme for compressed images is proposed. ► A degradation model simulates JPEG, by the signal attenuation and the Gaussian noise addition. ► Gaussian noise is removed by local filtering (LOF). ► A learning strategy reproduces the high-frequency component to handle the attenuation process. ► Quantization constraint regularizes the reconstructed coefficients within a reasonable range. | | |
