Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation, In Press, Accepted Manuscript, Available online 5 May 2011
Chun Yin, Shou-ming Zhong, Wu-fan Chen

Highlights

► In this paper, a general class of fractional-order chaotic systems is introduced. ► Design a sliding mode controller for the class of fractional-order chaotic systems is considered. ► The sliding mode control law is derived to stabilize the states of the fractional-order chaotic systems, even if the systems are perturbed by uncertainties and external disturbances. ► Chaos control is implement in the fractional-order Chen, Lorenz and financial systems by using the proposed method. ► Finally, the claims are justified through numerical simulations.

Highlights

We derive a first principle model of an industrial fuel gas blending system. ► We validate the model against plant data. ► We apply three different Model Predictive Control (MPC) strategies. Two employ successive linearization.► MPC with periodic real-time optimization of steady-state targets provides near-optimal economic benefits. ► We hypothesize that alternative approaches are unlikely to improve performance significantly.
