Passivated TiN nanocrystals/SiN trapping layer for enhanced erasing in nonvolatile memory
G. Gay, D. Belhachemi, J. P. Colonna, S. Minoret, P. Brianceau, D. Lafond, T. Baron, G. Molas, E. Jalaguier, A. Beaurain, B. Pelissier, V. Vidal, and B. De Salvo

High density, crystalline and isolated nanocrystals are observed by transmission electron microscopy and characterized by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Devices show large memory window and fast erasing compared to devices using pure SiN trapping layers, explained by enhanced electrical field in SiN.

Carbon impurities and the yellow luminescence in GaN
J. L. Lyons, A. Janotti, and C. G. Van de Walle

Using advanced first-principles calculations, the carbon acceptor in GaN is found to be much deeper than previously thought. Calculated optical properties show that substitutional carbon emits light at 2.14 eV, explaining the source of carbon-related yellow luminescence.

Early development of cutaneous cancer revealed by intravital nonlinear optical microscopy
Chun-Chin Wang, Feng-Chieh Li, Wei-Chou Lin, Yang-Fang Chen, Shean-Jen Chen, Sung-Jan Lin, and Chen-Yuan Dong

Using intravital images and the quantitative pixel to pixel ratiometric processing of multiphoton autofluorescence to second harmonic generation index, we can visualize the interaction between epithelial cells and extracellular matrix. Our results show that the physiological changes to mouse skin en route to become cancer can be effectively tracked by multiphoton microscopy.

APL Articles in the Press

Applied Physics Letters continues to promote exciting research in the journal, now adding the AIP Eurekalert news feed service as a new mode of distribution to various media outlets. Several press releases for APL articles have already been featured on this news service to be picked up by various media outlets since its launch in June 2010. AIP has also launched a site through the Chinese Eurekalert service to broaden the reach of APL content.

Nobel Prize

Applied Physics Letters congratulates Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov, the recipients of the Nobel Prize in Physics for their "groundbreaking experiments regarding the two-dimensional material graphene." Visit http://journals.aip.org/Nobel2010.html to read more about this year's prize and for links to other resources from AIP including freely available, related articles from Applied Physics Letters and other AIP journals.

UniPHY Introduces Groups

AIP has recently launched UniPHY Discussion Groups, a new feature within our UniPHY scientific social networking website that allows members to form collaborative environments centered on scientific journals and disciplines, common interests, institutions, organizations, or upcoming events.

We encourage scientific researchers to join UniPHY to begin to create and participate in dynamic conversations that will enhance and accelerate their research interests and activities.
