► The thickness of the catalyst film has a direct effect on the areal density of the catalytic particles and then the alignment of the CNT array. ► Both the size and areal density of the catalyst also change with the CNT growth in accordance with Ostwald ripening process, with the bottom of the CNT array varying from well-aligned to disordered and adhesion between catalyst particles and the substrate getting enhanced. ► Introducing alumina as buffer layer and annealing the catalyst film at low pressure are two effective approaches to downsize the catalyst particles and then the diameter, wall number of the CNTs.
► The carbon nanotubes with pits or Pt particles embedded are fabricated. ► The novel structures are fabricated using an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) template. ► The detail synthesis includes decorating AAO channels and chemical vapor deposition. ► The formation mechanism of these novel structures is suggested.
► A green synthesis method has been developed for the preparation of AuNPs and AgNPs. ► Rosa damascene act as a reducing and stabilizing agent. ► The biosynthesized AuNPs are used in electrochemical applications.
► A direct 3-D numerical solution is carried out. ► The adopted method validates more accurately with the experimental values. ► Quantum Mechanical Effects are included in the 3-D simulation directly without reducing to 1-D Schrödinger equation.► New Boundary conditions are used for solving the 3-D Schrödinger equation.► Simulation time is very much reduced.
We evaluate of the impact of adding nitrogen and boron to nanotubes on field emission properties. Nitrogen enhances field emission, while boron either impedes or does not affect field emission.
Highlights
► TDDFT for the simulation of the field emission process from nanostructures. ► Results are close to published work using similar and other methods. ► Visualization of the evolution of the charge cloud. ► Boron doping either impedes, or slightly enhances, field emission. ► Nitrogen strongly increases emission current.
► We analyze a nanofocusing structure with the largest achievable field enhancement. ► We show high efficiency of the structure for near-field trapping and manipulation. ► We discuss applications for nano-optical sensors and monitoring techniques. ► We demonstrate the capabilities for single-molecule detection and imaging. ► We present detailed physical interpretation of the obtained results.
► BN co-doping suppresses Negative Differential Resistance property of SiCNT. ► HOMO has no contribution from BN impurity. ► LUMO is contributed from Nitrogen atoms at low and high bias voltages. ► BN co-doping results in exponential increase in current with bias. ► Rectification is negligible.
CO oxidation of bare and TiO2-coated NiO-Ni(OH)2 nanoparticlesOriginal Research Article Current Applied Physics, In Press, Accepted Manuscript, Available online 3 August 2011 Jong Won Nam, Kwang-Dae Kim, Dong Wun Kim, Hyun Ook Seo, Young Dok Kim, Dong Chan Lim
► We achieved to obtain blue to green luminescent nanocrystals by a one-step process. ► Alkyl thiol was used as a sulfur source and a surface stabilizer to control particle size. ► The luminescence color of NCs could be easily tuned by changing their composition and particle size simultaneously.
► Bare armchair graphene nanoribbons (AGNR) are narrow band gap semiconductors.► H-termination enhances the stability as well as band gap in narrow AGNR.► Cu-doped AGNR are metallic irrespective of their widths.► Cu-terminated AGNR exhibit oscillatory band gap that depends on their widths.
► Irradiation of PET with linearly polarized light from a pulsed KrF laser ► The structure period was controlled by variation of the incidence angle ► Gold layers were deposited onto nano-patterned PET by sputtering and evaporation ► Evaporation leads to a continuous metal coverage copying the nanostructured polymer ► Sputtering leads to formation of isolated nano-wires
► We produced multi-walled carbon nanotubes powder by pyrolysis of camphor mixed with ferrocene, and then used non-oxidative and oxidative acidic treatments for iron removal. ► We analyzed the elimination and/or oxidation of iron nanoparticles by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, monitoring Fe2p, O1 s and C1 s peaks. ► We carried out complementary investigation by thermogravimetric analysis, atomic absorption spectroscopy, Raman Spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to evaluate the effectiveness of each treatment. ► A purity degree higher than 98% was achieved only with non-oxidative treatments using sonification process
► Ni as catalyst, high-quality GaN nanowires films were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) ► The open electric field of the sample1 was 9.1 V/μm ► The field emission properties of GaN nanowires films are related to the roughness and density of the nanowires in the film.
► Stable dispersions of rGO was prepared using aniline as stabilizing agent ► rGO was decorated by Ag nanoparticle via in situ reduction of Ag salt by aniline ► The resulting AgNP/rGO exhibits notable catalytic activity toward reduction of H2O2
► The encapsulated Fen clusters inside C80 cage are energetically favorable while Fen@C60 nano-cages are not. ► The encapsulation does not significantly change the enclosed cluster structure. ► The total magnetic moment of the larger clusters reduces due to a stronger Fe-C hybridization.
► The electromagnetic properties of opal matrix with the ferrite particles have been studied. ► Variations in the transmission and reflection are caused by magnetic resonance and antiresonance. ► Magnetic antiresonance has been defined here as a minimum of the absorbed power. ► The spectra of the resonances of reflection coefficient are restored.
