9.Risk Evaluation in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis of Aircraft Turbine Rotor Blades Using Dempster-Shafer Evidence Theory under Uncertainty   Original Research Article
Engineering Failure Analysis, In Press, Accepted Manuscript, Available online 30 June 2011

    Highlights

► In this paper, D-S evidence theory is adopted to aggregate the risk evaluation information of multiple experts, which may be inconsistent, imprecise and uncertain. The modified evidence theory is proposed for dealing with different opinions of multiple experts, multiple failure modes and three risk factors in RPN analysis of FEMA of compressor blades of aeroengines. In this method, the simplified discernment frames is provided according to practical engineering application. Meanwhile, the fused three risk factors are regarded as the discrete random variables. Consequently, the RPN is a function of the discrete random variable. The mean value of RPN is used to the risk priority ranking of failure modes. The proposed method is demonstrated by an application of risk priority ranking of failure modes in FEMA of compressor blades of the aeroengine. The different evaluation information of three experts about eight failure modes is aggregated. The mean value of risk priority number is attained. The risk ranking consequence of failure mode is consistent to the practical engineering background.

    Highlights

► A novel variant of bacterial foraging optimization (BFO) is proposed. ► Our algorithm introduces the swarming dynamics of the particle swarm optimization algorithm in the context of BFO. ► This improves the convergence of the BFO bacteria foraging mechanism. ► Our algorithm mitigates the curse-of-dimensionality by utilizing multiple cooperative populations. ► We demonstrate the efficacy of our approach on several benchmark optimization problems.

    Highlights

► In situ Mg2Si phases were formed by adding fly ash cenospheres into AZ91D Mg alloy through direct reaction synthesis (DRS) with compocasting technique. The effect of the isothermal temperatures and time of the slurry on the microstructures and mechanical properties (room temperature and 150°C) of the as-cast samples were investigated.
